Greaves Cotton has entered a strategic partnership with Chara Technologies to revolutionize electric mobility by manufacturing synchronous reluctance motors and controllers that are entirely free of rare-earth magnets.
These innovative components will be exclusively produced at Greaves' state-of-the-art Shendra facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Designed for both automotive and non-automotive applications, they will power everything from L5 three-wheelers and golf carts to electric four-wheelers.
Chara Technologies' rare-earth-free motor technology boosts energy efficiency by eliminating electromagnetic losses and reducing dependence on rare mineral supply chains. This breakthrough is expected to deliver up to 50% energy savings and cut CO2 emissions by 30%, thanks to the use of sustainable materials.
By combining Chara’s cutting-edge motor innovation with Greaves’ robust manufacturing and R&D capabilities, the partnership aims to deliver customized electric drive solutions for OEMs across India’s rapidly growing EV market. This collaboration marks a major step forward in accelerating India’s clean mobility movement through innovation, sustainability, and scale.
