GAIL's Green Light: Bengaluru Gets a Bio-CNG Plant

On 11 September 2025, the Karnataka Cabinet approved a series of key infrastructure and healthcare initiatives, including the allotment of 18 acres of land at Haralakunte village, Begur Hobli, Bengaluru South Taluk to GAIL (India) Limited for setting up a bio-CNG plant.

The plant will have an initial capacity of 300 tonnes per day (TPD), expandable to 500 TPD, and the land will be allotted on a 25-year ‘Permissive Use’ basis. The Revenue Department and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management have been directed to conduct a joint land survey, while the Urban Development Department will address related operational and implementation challenges.

In a parallel decision, the Cabinet also granted administrative approval for the construction of two 100-bed hospitals at Bellahalli and Hebbal in Yelahanka Taluk, at a combined cost of ₹100 crore, aimed at strengthening local healthcare infrastructure.
