Powering Progress: Thiruvananthapuram's Piped Gas Project

The Thiruvananthapuram City Gas Distribution (CGD) project, led by THINK Gas, is making steady progress, with full completion of the piped gas network targeted by December 2028.

Expansion efforts are ongoing in key constituencies such as Kazhakkoottam and Vattiyoorkavu. So far, 591 km of pipeline has been laid with an investment of ₹700 crore, connecting 16,730 households and 33 commercial establishments to piped natural gas (PNG). In parallel, 22 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations are currently operational, including new outlets in Nalanchira and Vizhinjam.

THINK Gas aims to add 13,000 new household PNG connections over the next year. Pipeline work is 70–80% complete in several zones across the city.

To minimise road disruption and traffic congestion, the project uses trenchless horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology. Additionally, a high-capacity LCNG (liquefied to compressed natural gas) plant at Thonnakkal, commissioned in May 2025, now supports consistent and reliable gas supply across the network.
