On January 30, 2024, NTPC and Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaboratively explore opportunities in the realm of green chemical projects. The strategic partnership is specifically focused on initiatives related to green chemicals and sustainable projects. The primary area of interest involves investigating possibilities within the proposed bamboo-based bio-refinery at NTPC Bongaigaon, as well as other environmentally-friendly projects.
Through this MoU, the two Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) aim to expand their presence in the green chemicals sector, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable solutions. Their joint efforts align with the overarching goal of achieving Net-Zero targets, contributing to environmental conservation, and participating in the development of the North-east region.
NTPC, in line with its commitment to sustainability, has set a target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. Additionally, the company is actively pursuing a leading role in the green hydrogen and energy storage domains. NRL, a subsidiary of Oil India, specializes in the refining and marketing of petroleum products. This collaborative venture signifies a collective effort towards advancing green technologies and fostering a more sustainable energy landscape.
