Rockwool Group Commits ₹550 Crore to New Factory in Tamil Nadu

Denmark’s Rockwool Group, renowned for its fire-resilient stone wool insulation, is significantly expanding its footprint in India with a ₹550 crore investment in a new greenfield factory in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu. This new facility, which will span 50,000 square meters on a 56-acre site, is set to bolster Rockwool’s production capabilities and cater to the growing demand for non-combustible stone wool insulation in the region. The factory is expected to commence operations by the first half of 2026 and will employ around 150 people.

Thomas Kähler, Chairman of Rockwool Group, expressed excitement about the expansion, stating, “This investment marks our second venture in India, reinforcing our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable solutions. India’s focus on these areas aligns with our mission, and we look forward to contributing further to the market with innovative products.” The new Cheyyar factory will focus on producing recyclable and durable stone wool insulation, enhancing Rockwool’s offerings in the Indian market.

Since entering India in 2011 with a facility in Dahej, Gujarat, Rockwool has been a key player in the insulation sector, producing about 40,000 tonnes annually. The Cheyyar plant, with a planned annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes, will not only increase production but also introduce advanced technologies, including dual-density options for residential and commercial applications.

Darryl Mathews, Managing Director of Rockwool Asia, highlighted the rising demand for Rockwool’s non-combustible insulation products across various sectors, including building insulation, industrial applications, and OEM segments. He emphasized that the company’s products are designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact while enhancing acoustic and thermal comfort.

Rockwool remains committed to sustainability, using abundant stone as its primary raw material and expanding its recycling practices in India. The company plans to continue recycling old products into new ones, underscoring its dedication to environmental stewardship and innovation in the insulation industry.
