The ₹347.47-crore redevelopment of Madurai Junction Railway Station is progressing steadily, with officials confident of meeting the November 2026 completion target.
Major components of the upgrade—including a multilevel two-wheeler parking facility at the East entry and a four-wheeler parking facility at the West entry—are already operational. The station is being transformed with airport-style amenities, dedicated arrival and departure terminals, and an integrated transport hub connecting bus, rail, auto, and taxi services.
According to railway officials, nearly 90% of footing and foundation work for the steel FOB revamp is complete. Staircase column works on Platforms 2 and 3 have reached about 25%, while backfilling and lift headroom brickwork are in progress. Around 50% of construction in the East Terminal (Segments 1, 2, and 3) is also finished. Subway works within the railway boundary have been completed, with extensions progressing.
Additional upgrades include revamped foot overbridges, a skywalk, a subway linking the station to Periyar Bus Stand, improved waiting halls, lifts, escalators, and a food court. Passenger amenities are being enhanced to meet future demand.
