The Green Line extension of Namma Metro from Nagasandra to Madavara, formerly known as Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), along Tumakuru Road is anticipated to become operational by July 2024. This elevated line, spanning from Nagasandra to Madavara, encompasses three stations - Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara.
Significant progress has been made in the construction, with most of the work completed. Following the finalization of track laying and other minor tasks related to stations, the upcoming stages involve conducting trial runs of trains and inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.
The commencement of the fully elevated Green Line's northern extension from Nagasandra, covering a distance of three kilometers, dates back to 2017. Originally slated for completion by mid-2019, delays attributed to land acquisition issues hampered progress, resulting in missed deadlines set by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL).
In January 2021, BMRCL successfully inaugurated the southern extension of the Green Line from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute on Kanakapura Road. With the anticipated operationalization of the extended stretch to BIEC, the total length of the Green Line is poised to reach 33 kilometers. This extension is expected to cater to the commuting needs of a substantial number of passengers, providing enhanced connectivity and convenience along the Green Line.
