The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sanctioned ₹97 crore for the construction of a flyover and grade separator at Shastrinagar Chowk, aiming to alleviate the severe traffic congestion in the city’s eastern neighborhoods. The tender process for this critical infrastructure project is set to commence next week.
Residents of Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, and Kharadi are expected to benefit significantly from the reduced traffic snarls once the project is completed. This approval follows a no-objection certificate (NOC) obtained in May from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), a crucial step due to the proximity of the historic Aga Khan Palace to the proposed construction site.
Earlier this year, in April, the PMC made an audio-visual presentation to the National Monuments Authority in Delhi to secure the necessary permissions, highlighting the project's potential impact on nearby heritage sites.
The flyover at Shastrinagar Chowk is part of a broader effort by the PMC to improve traffic flow and reduce travel times in rapidly developing areas of Pune. The project underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure while balancing the preservation of its historical landmarks.
With the tender process imminent, the project is poised to move forward, offering much-needed relief to commuters in some of Pune’s busiest districts.
