Railways Sanctions ₹133Cr ROB and ₹142Cr Traction Upgrade

Indian Railways has approved the construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing No. 53 at Km 62/2-4 on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway.

Estimated at ₹133.2295 crore, the project will be executed on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between Indian Railways and the state government, with each contributing approximately ₹66.61 crore. Due to a complex 62% skew at the crossing location, the project engineering features an Open Web Girder (OWG) bridge portion (estimated at ₹91.60 crore), a 311.58-metre viaduct portion, and a 524.32-metre railway approach portion. Once completed, this four-lane ROB will significantly streamline regional road traffic, eliminate safety hazards at the level crossing, and ensure uninterrupted, safe train operations along the bustling Western Railway corridor.

Additionally, Indian Railways has approved the upgradation of the electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV on the 73-route-km (146 track-km) Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway at an estimated cost of ₹142 crore. This vital upgrade will strengthen power supply infrastructure and enhance network capacity to handle growing traffic. It forms an integral part of HUN Route 8, which spans the Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada corridor.
