Airbus India Awards Key H130 Fuselage Contract to Mahindra Aerostructures

Airbus India has signed a significant contract with Mahindra Aerostructures for the manufacture of the fuselage for the Airbus H130 single-engine helicopter. The first delivery is scheduled for March 2027. The signing ceremony, held on April 9, 2025, was chaired by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu.

The event took place at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and was attended by key dignitaries, including Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, Airbus India & South Asia President and MD Mr. Remi Maillard, Mahindra Group CEO and MD Dr. Anish Shah, and senior leaders from both organizations.

The H130 is an eight-seater helicopter widely used in transport, tourism, medical evacuation, surveillance, and private aviation. Under the agreement, Mahindra Aerostructures—a part of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group—will carry out the main fuselage assembly at its facility in the Kolar district of Karnataka. The expected annual production volume is between 60 and 70 units, which will be shipped to Airbus Helicopters’ assembly sites in Europe. Financial details of the contract have not been disclosed.

Mr. Maillard emphasized Airbus’s growing investment in India, citing the H130 contract as part of a broader strategy to expand its local supply chain. “This award is part of a series of complex systems entrusted to Indian companies, including the A220 aircraft doors. We are committed to deepening our engagement and growing the ecosystem here,” he said.

Airbus’s annual sourcing from India has shown steady growth—reaching USD 1.4 billion in 2024, up from USD 1 billion in 2023 and USD 500 million in 2019. The company aims to scale this to USD 2 billion by 2030.

Minister Ram Mohan Naidu highlighted the growing role of Indian industry in global aerospace manufacturing, noting that over 200 MSMEs and startups are currently engaged in the sector. The Mahindra Group itself supports several Airbus commercial programmes and collaborates with around 300 suppliers through its aerospace operations.
