Mega Deal: BHEL Bags ₹7,500 Crore Ukai Power Plant Project.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a ₹7,500 crore contract from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) to develop an 800 MW unit at the Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Tapi, Gujarat.

Awarded through international competitive bidding, the project will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) basis and is scheduled for completion within 54 months. The new unit will be built on the existing ash dyke area. BHEL’s scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, testing, and commissioning, along with electrical, civil, and structural works. Additionally, the project involves installing advanced emission control equipment to meet environmental standards.

BHEL has been associated with the Ukai plant since 1976, when it installed its first thermal unit there. With over 1,70,000 MW of installed utility power capacity across India, BHEL continues to play a key role in strengthening the nation's energy security.
