Baramati Agro Sweetens the Deal: Expansion Plans for Kannad Plant

Baramati Agro Limited (Unit 2) in Kannad, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, is planning a significant expansion of its sugar production facility, aiming to increase its sugarcane crushing capacity from 4,500 to 7,000 tonnes per cane crushing day (TCCD).

Additionally, the expansion includes plans to upscale the co-generation power plant from 14.75 MW to 30 MW, allowing for more efficient electricity generation from byproducts like bagasse.

Furthermore, the project entails the addition of a new distillery unit with a capacity of 60 kiloliters per day (klpd), diversifying into alcohol-based products such as ethanol or rectified spirit.

The potential impacts of this expansion are considerable, including increased sugar production benefiting local farmers, enhanced power generation contributing to the local grid, and the creation of new job opportunities through alcohol production.

However, it's crucial to address environmental concerns associated with large-scale sugar production and distillery operations, including water usage, air pollution, and effluent generation. The company has proposed measures like rainwater harvesting and greenbelt development to mitigate these impacts, as indicated in their environmental impact assessment plans.
