Carlsberg's Rs 1,250 Crore Food Bet in India

Danish brewing major Carlsberg has announced an investment of ₹1,250 crore in India’s food processing sector, reaffirming the country’s status as a “priority growth market.” The company formalized the commitment through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) during the World Food India 2025 event in New Delhi.

The investment includes ₹500 crore for a new greenfield brewery in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, ₹400 crore for brownfield expansion in Hooghly, West Bengal, and ₹350 crore for capacity enhancement at its Mysuru facility in Karnataka.

This strategic expansion will significantly boost Carlsberg India’s brewing and packaging operations, generate employment, and stimulate demand in allied industries such as malt, glass, cans, cardboard, and logistics. Over the next three years, the company anticipates incremental procurement of ₹600 crore in raw materials and packaging supplies.

Nilesh Patel, Managing Director of Carlsberg India, highlighted that the investment will enhance operational capacity, strengthen supply chains, and increase excise revenue contributions—underscoring Carlsberg’s long-term commitment to India’s economic and industrial growth.
