Maa Mahamaya Sahakari Shakkar Karkhana Maryadit (MMSK), a cooperative sugar factory founded in 1966 in Kerta, Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh, is embarking on a significant expansion with the establishment of a distillery manufacturing unit. Priced at ₹56.33 crores and unfolding in two phases, the project aims to construct a 20 KLPD distillery in the initial phase, followed by an expansion to 30 KLPD in the second phase.
The distillery's focus on ethanol production aligns with sustainable practices, offering biofuel alternatives and diversifying the income streams of MMSK. This initiative is poised to generate substantial economic impacts, creating direct employment for around 100 individuals and indirect employment for approximately 500 people in the region.
With funding structured through a combination of debt from financial institutions and equity from MMSK and its members, the project is slated to commence construction in the first quarter of 2024, with operational readiness anticipated by the end of 2025. Beyond its economic contributions, the distillery project holds strategic significance in reducing reliance on imported ethanol and fostering regional development, thereby positioning Surajpur district for enhanced economic vitality.
As on January, 2024. Project has gotten approvals. All approvals were granted. By February 2024, project construction will begin.
