Nalco and NLC India (NLCIL) have entered into a 50:50 joint venture to build a 1,080 MW (4x270 MW) thermal captive power plant in Anugul, Odisha. The facility will exclusively power Nalco’s planned 0.5 million tonne per annum aluminium smelter expansion via a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement. Fuel security is guaranteed through a long-term Fuel Supply Agreement with NLC India at Coal India's notified rates. Beyond thermal generation, the partnership plans to procure 200–250 MW of round-the-clock renewable energy to drive cleaner operations. The alliance ultimately aims to de-risk Nalco's operations, fortify its energy supply, and power its long-term growth.
