Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor), the logistics arm of Indian Railways, is expanding into specialized warehousing with the launch of its first ‘net zero’ ambient warehouse. Spanning 1.3 lakh sq ft, the facility is being developed in Sriperumbudur, strategically located to serve a strong regional customer base, particularly in the electronics sector.
Speaking at a session on the State Logistics Policy, organized by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, G. Gayatri, Area Head – III at Concor, detailed the initiative. She announced that the warehouse will be part of a 50-acre complex, with an initial 20-acre phase set to become operational within a year. The total investment for the project exceeds ₹60 crore.
The decision to pursue this green infrastructure project was driven by market interest gauged through Expressions of Interest from various stakeholders. As part of the first phase, Concor is building 1 lakh sq ft of ambient storage and 30,000 sq ft of cold storage. This move marks Concor’s entry into niche, environmentally sustainable warehousing, aligning with its broader goal of offering innovative and eco-friendly logistics solutions to meet the evolving needs of its clientele.
