Honda Cars India Sells Gujarat Land for Mascot's Industrial City

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has sold its 380-acre land parcel in Vithalapur, near Ahmedabad, to the Mascot Group, marking its exit from the region. The transaction, initiated in 2023, is in its final stages, pending a few legal formalities.

Mascot Group, known for its expertise in industrial and logistics infrastructure, plans to transform the site into an integrated industrial city. The project will feature 31 five-storey towers designed to house over 12,000 workers, along with residential apartments, dormitories, a school, food court, and other civic amenities—creating a self-sustaining ecosystem in the rapidly industrialising Bechraji-Vithalapur belt.

HCIL had acquired the land in 2016-17 for potential expansion. However, with its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan—boasting a production capacity of 1.8 lakh units annually and further scalability—the company opted to monetise the Vithalapur land to align with its medium-term strategic goals.

The move reflects Honda’s focus on optimising existing operations while contributing to the broader growth of Gujarat’s industrial corridor, already home to leading automotive manufacturers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, MG Motor, Hero MotoCorp, Atul Auto, and Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India.
