Rajasthan’s Cities Get a ₹5,500 Cr. Infrastructure Makeover

Rajasthan is fast-tracking urban infrastructure development through the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP), with a total outlay of ₹5,500 crore.

The initiative is jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank (70%) and the state government (30%), aiming to upgrade sewerage systems, water supply, drainage networks, and urban beautification across multiple urban centres.

Under RUIDP Phase IV (Tranche-I), projects worth ₹3,076.63 crore are currently being implemented across 14 cities for water and sewerage infrastructure, and in 12 cities for faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) — collectively benefitting an estimated 1.8 million people.

Tranche-II, with a budget of ₹2,450 crore, covers 16 additional cities and focuses on similar infrastructure improvements. As of September 2025, work orders worth ₹1,995 crore have been issued, and ₹984 crore has already been spent.

The program aligns with the state’s broader urban reform agenda led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Implementation is being overseen by the Local Self Government Department, under the leadership of Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Khara.
