The Future is Local: Mitsubishi’s ₹2,100Cr Chennai Hub

Mitsubishi Electric India has announced an investment of ₹2,100 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The plant will manufacture room air conditioners and compressors, marking the company’s second production unit in India within two years, following the commissioning of its Factory Automation Systems facility in Pune in 2023.

The Chennai unit will have an annual capacity of 300,000 air conditioners and 650,000 compressors. Atsushi Takase, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric India, said the new facility would significantly enhance localisation and strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities in the country. “We were importing air conditioners earlier and will now manufacture them in Chennai,” he told BusinessLine.
