Powering the Transition: Adani’s 24 GW Roadmap to Grid Stability

As India’s power grid rapidly transitions toward renewable energy, Adani Power is repositioning its thermal plants as balancing assets to ensure grid stability and support higher renewable integration. This shift aligns with the company’s plan to add 24 GW of generation capacity by FY32, supported by long-term power purchase agreements.

“Now the focus has shifted to keeping generation capacity available to help integrate more renewable power into the grid while continuing to supply base-load power. Thermal plants will increasingly function as balancing power stations, where the priority is maintaining high plant availability rather than maximising plant load factor (PLF),” said Dilip Jha, Chief Financial Officer of Adani Power.

Jha added that the upcoming capacity additions will incorporate advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and lower fuel consumption. This approach reflects Adani Power’s broader strategy to align thermal generation with India’s expanding renewable energy ecosystem while maintaining reliability across the power grid.
