Buhler to Double Capacity in India: Major Expansion Planned

Swiss firm Buhler plans to double its manufacturing capacity in India within five years, targeting increased local demand and higher exports to Africa and West Asia. The company’s Bengaluru facility, operational for over three decades, produces equipment for processing rice, wheat, pulses, coffee, and manufacturing food items like biscuits, pasta, and chocolates.

Prashant Gokhale, Managing Director of Buhler India, announced a ₹200 crore investment for this expansion. He highlighted plans to also double exports, which already include specialized machinery like coffee roasters shipped worldwide. Africa and West Asia remain primary export regions, with New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Europe, and the US also receiving equipment.

Buhler’s Bengaluru plant ranks as the fourth largest among its 30 global factories. While 75-80% of production serves the Indian market, the rest supports international demand. Additionally, the site hosts a global R&D unit, driving innovative solutions for various markets.

With an annual business turnover of ₹700-750 crore and a growth rate of 10%, Buhler’s expansion aligns with urbanization and rising processed food demand in India. The company also manages global IT operations from India, enhancing its shared services and engineering capabilities for the Middle East and Africa.
