MM Forgings’ Mega Expansion: Targeting ₹2K Crore by FY27

Chennai-based automotive component manufacturer MM Forgings Ltd is undertaking a major capacity expansion with an investment of approximately ₹230 crore in a new hot forging press, as the company targets revenue of nearly ₹2,000 crore by FY27.

The company is installing a 16,500-tonne hot forging press, which Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vidyashankar Krishnan said will be the largest operational hot forging press in the world. The equipment is currently being manufactured in Russia and is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.

According to Krishnan, the new facility will substantially enhance MM Forgings’ ability to manufacture large and complex forged components for global commercial vehicle manufacturers. He noted that the largest forging press currently in operation is a 16,000-tonne unit at Bharat Forge, making the upcoming installation a significant milestone for the company and the industry.

The advanced press will expand the company’s forging capabilities beyond its current limit of approximately 120 kg per component. Once operational, it will enable the production of heavier front axle beams for large commercial vehicles and crankshafts weighing up to 300 kg.

The enhanced capacity is expected to allow MM Forgings to manufacture axle beams exceeding 170 kg, providing access to new opportunities in the global heavy-truck and commercial vehicle markets. The investment is also expected to strengthen the company’s competitive position in the high-value forged components segment.

The expansion forms part of MM Forgings’ long-term growth strategy and is expected to support increasing demand from domestic and international customers while contributing to the company’s goal of achieving nearly ₹2,000 crore in revenue by FY27.
