National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is expanding its brownfield aluminium smelter capacity at Angul, Odisha, with an approved investment of approximately ₹30,000 crore. The expansion will increase NALCO’s total smelting capacity from 0.46 MTPA to nearly 1.0 MTPA. To support the additional 1,100 MW power demand, NALCO has formed a 50:50 joint venture with NLC India to construct a 1,080 MW captive thermal power plant (4 × 270 MW units). The expansion leverages surplus alumina from the company's fifth-stream alumina refinery project at Damanjodi, with major statutory approvals and local RPDAC land acquisition processes already underway.
