Shyam Steel Forges Ahead: Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant Rises in West Bengal

Shyam Steel Industries Limited is embarking on an ambitious expansion project at its existing steel plant located in Jemua, Bankura, West Bengal. This expansion endeavor encompasses various stages of the steel manufacturing process, aiming to substantially augment the company's production capacity and enhance its market competitiveness.

The expansion project involves several key components, starting with the establishment of a new iron ore beneficiation plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This facility will enable the company to optimize its raw material processing and supply chain operations, ensuring a steady input stream for steel production.

Furthermore, the project entails significant enhancements in steelmaking capabilities. This includes a substantial increase in sponge iron production capacity from 225,000 TPA to 786,000 TPA, along with the expansion of melting and casting facilities. Induction furnace capacity will be augmented, and a new 30 T Electric Arc Furnace will be introduced to bolster steel production capabilities.

In addition to steelmaking, the expansion project includes upgrades in rolling mill capacities to meet the growing demand for various finished steel products such as TMT bars, structural sections, cold rolled bars, and wire rods. The rolling mill capacity will be increased from 290,000 TPA to 719,000 TPA, ensuring the availability of diverse steel products to cater to market needs.

Furthermore, the expansion project includes substantial investments in power generation infrastructure. This includes expanding capacities of WHRB-based and FBC-based power plants to 46 MW and 25 MW, respectively. These enhancements in power generation capabilities will not only support the increased production but also contribute to the company's energy self-sufficiency and sustainability goals.

Additionally, the expansion project encompasses the establishment of a new ferro alloys unit with a capacity of 2 x 9 MVA and a new iron ore pellet plant with a capacity of 0.8 MTPA. These additions further diversify the company's product portfolio and strengthen its position in the steel manufacturing sector.

As the project progresses, stakeholders are advised to seek additional information from reliable sources such as press releases, news articles, or environmental impact assessment reports to gain comprehensive insights into the project's scope, progress, and potential implications on the environment and surrounding communities.
