Suchi Semicon to Invest $100M in Gujarat’s First OSAT Plant

Surat-based Suchi Semicon has announced a $100 million investment in Gujarat's first Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facility. Spread over the next three to five years, the plant will be located in Surat district and will initially cover 30,000 square feet, with the capacity to produce up to 3 million chips per day.

Scheduled to begin operations in November, the plant will start with a daily production of 200,000 chips, focusing on legacy devices for consumer electronics. Suchi Semicon, approved under Gujarat's semiconductor policy, is also aligned with the India Semiconductor Mission.

Co-founder Shetal Mehta emphasized that while the company will focus on OSAT operations initially, they may consider semiconductor design in the future based on market demand. The facility is expected to create 1,200 jobs and will feature advanced cleanroom environments.

Partnering with Gujarat Technological University and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Suchi Semicon aims to develop a skilled workforce, with international experts assisting in training. The project will be rolled out in five phases, eventually expanding into power devices and advanced chips.
