Tata Electronics Expands Hosur iPhone Casing Unit in TN

Tata Electronics is set to significantly expand its current iPhone casing unit situated in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, potentially doubling its existing size. The primary objective behind this expansion is to enhance the firm's capacity for contract manufacturing of sophisticated electronic products and accessories.

The projected expansion is anticipated to result in substantial employment opportunities, with an estimated workforce increase of 25,000-28,000 individuals in a single location. The timeline for this expansion is estimated to span between 12 to 18 months. Notably, the Hosur unit, originally established with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore, occupies an extensive area spanning 500 acres.

Tata Electronics, having recently acquired Wistron’s iPhone assembly plant in Narasapura, Karnataka, has a strategic focus on amplifying production levels. The company aims to leverage its resources effectively to meet escalating demands for exports, emphasizing an augmentation in volumes.

Distinguished as the sole domestic enterprise serving as a vendor for Apple, Tata Electronics holds the responsibility of manufacturing iPhone enclosures for the Cupertino-headquartered tech giant. Subsequently, India has witnessed iPhone exports surpassing a value of over USD five billion during the April-October period of FY24, largely attributed to Tata Electronics' contributions.
