UP Govt Greenlights Major 1,200 MW Pumped Storage Power Plant

The Uttar Pradesh government has granted in-principle approval for THDC India's ambitious 1,200 MW pumped storage power plant in Robertsganj tehsil, Sonbhadra district. With an estimated cost of Rs 6,600 crore, this project aims to generate electricity for six hours and 36 minutes daily, significantly bolstering the state's power infrastructure.

The off-stream, closed-loop pump storage facility will span 300.55 hectares. To operate, it will initially need 15.031 million cubic meters (MCM) of water annually, sourced from the Son river, with an additional 1.7112 MCM accounting for evaporation losses. This innovative approach ensures a reliable water supply for sustained energy production.

This project underscores Uttar Pradesh's commitment to sustainable energy solutions. By harnessing the capabilities of THDC India, the state aims to achieve efficient and successful project execution. The development is a major stride towards enhancing renewable energy infrastructure.

Moreover, this initiative aligns with broader environmental goals by promoting renewable energy and reducing reliance on non-renewable resources. The significant investment and strategic planning highlight the state's proactive approach to addressing future energy needs.

In conclusion, this pumped storage power plant project represents a landmark achievement in Uttar Pradesh's energy sector, promising enhanced power stability and sustainable growth.
