In a significant step toward decongesting Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis virtually inaugurated three critical transit projects on October 22, 2026. The newly completed structures include the Sion Rail Overbridge (ROB), the Vidyavihar Flyover, and the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Connector.
The Vidyavihar Flyover provides a vital East-West connection, highlighted by an impressive 98-meter steel bridge over 10 railway tracks. Meanwhile, the new Sion ROB restores key arterial connections between the Eastern Express Highway, LBS Road, and Dharavi after replacing an unsafe 110-year-old structure. Crucially, its design facilitates the planned 5th and 6th railway line expansion between CSMT and Kurla under the MUTP. Adding to the city's western network, the GMLR connector establishes a seamless route between Dindoshi Court and Film City.
With construction and safety checks fully wrapped up, these projects promise smoother commutes, reduced junction bottlenecks, and seamless integration across Mumbai's bustling transit zones.
