Varanasi’s Rs 800 Crore Ropeway to Launch in November 2026

The Rs 800 crore Varanasi urban ropeway project has crossed a major milestone, reaching over 94% completion with a firm operational target of November 2026. Recently inspected by senior officials—including UP Secretary of Planning Raj Shekhar and Varanasi District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar—the 3.85-km transit system will be India's first public transport ropeway and the third of its kind globally, joining La Paz and Mexico City. Connecting Varanasi Junction to Godowlia with stops at Kashi Vidyapeeth and Rathyatra, the new ropeway will drastically cut down urban congestion and provide millions of pilgrims and tourists with direct, effortless access to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
