A Wave of Relief: North Goa to Get 250 MLD Water Plant by 2026

Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar has announced that North Goa’s water shortage will be resolved by March 2026 with the commissioning of a 250 MLD water treatment plant at Sal.

Speaking during the Assembly discussion on WRD grants, the Minister said the project is being executed on a war footing. Once operational, it will significantly boost the region’s water supply, adding to the current capacity of 120–130 MLD and benefiting areas such as Pernem, Calangute, and Candolim. The government is also conducting surveys and seeking approvals for three to four new dams to ensure long-term water security.

On flood mitigation, Shirodkar announced plans to desilt the Kushawati River at Paroda to reduce flooding risks. The project, estimated at ₹3–4 crore, is already underway. If necessary, technical assistance will be sought from the National Institute of Oceanography.
