The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an investment of ₹8,146.21 crore for the 700 MW Tato-II Hydroelectric Project in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh. The project is slated for completion within 72 months.
Comprising 4 units of 175 MW, Tato-II is expected to generate 2,738.06 million units (MU) of electricity annually, strengthening Arunachal Pradesh’s power infrastructure and contributing to national grid stability.
The project will be executed by a joint venture between NEEPCO and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. It includes ₹458.79 crore in budgetary support for associated infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and transmission lines, and ₹436.13 crore as central equity support.
In addition to boosting clean energy, the project will develop 32.88 km of roads and bridges for local connectivity and is aligned with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. It will support local businesses and MSMEs, while generating significant direct and indirect employment and advancing regional infrastructure.
