Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's Water Future: A ₹2,740 Crore Lifeline

The ₹2,740.75 crore water supply project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, being implemented under the Centre’s AMRUT 2.0 scheme, has achieved 82% physical progress and is on track for partial commissioning by October 31, 2025, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

Approved on February 9, 2023, the project is designed to meet the city’s long-term water needs, targeting a projected demand of 604.86 MLD by 2052 for a population of 33.17 lakh.

Key infrastructure nearing completion includes:

Jackwell and pumping stations – 68%, Approach bund – 85%, 2,500 mm raw water pipeline – 94%, 392 MLD water treatment plant – 82%, Master balancing reservoir – 95%, Rising and gravity mains – 92–97%, Elevated service reservoirs – 55%, 1,911 km-long distribution network – 62%

So far, ₹1,891.42 crore has been expended on the project.

The current daily water supply of 145 MLD will increase to 171 MLD following the commissioning of a 26 MLD plant. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is closely monitoring the project, announced that 200 MLD capacity will be ready by December 2025, and 400 MLD by March 2026. Full completion is expected by December 2026.
