Delhi's STP Sprint: 10 New Plants, 30 MGD More Capacity.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has commenced work on 10 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) aimed at enhancing sewage management in the city and contributing to the clean-up of the Yamuna River.

Unlike conventional facilities, these DSTPs are being installed in areas without existing sewage infrastructure, particularly along major drains. The initial phase focuses on high-priority zones such as Najafgarh, Tikri Kalan, and nearby villages including Jaunti and Rindhala. Once operational, the new plants will collectively add 30 million gallons per day (MGD) to Delhi’s sewage treatment capacity.

In parallel, the Delhi government is expediting efforts to bridge the city’s 400 MGD treatment gap, with several projects underway to upgrade and expand existing infrastructure.

These initiatives are expected to benefit nearly 35 lakh residents across regions including Najafgarh, Chattarpur, and Narela, marking a significant step in DJB’s broader mission to strengthen wastewater management and restore the Yamuna’s ecological health.
