The Coimbatore Corporation's long-awaited water supply improvement project for Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur has reached its final stage, with trial runs now underway following the completion of pipeline works across the Podanur Railway line.
This milestone enables the long-anticipated distribution of water from the Pilloor III scheme to residents in South Zone wards 99 and 100. A Corporation official noted that the project, initiated in 2018 under the AMRUT scheme, includes provisions for 18 overhead tanks in Kuniyamuthur and 21 in Kurichi, covering wards 85 and 87 to 100.
Progress had been delayed primarily due to the time taken to complete the railway line crossing, leaving wards 99 and 100 reliant on the older Pilloor I scheme.
“Water has now been pumped into four overhead tanks located in Carmel Nagar, Mettur, and Anbu Nagar. Trial runs are ongoing, and once completed, residents in the affected wards can expect water supply at intervals of two to three days,” the official added.
