Gurugram’s ₹180 Crore Sewage Plant Cleared for Construction

After more than three years of delay, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has moved forward with the long-pending 100 million litres per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant (STP) in Sector-107, aimed at serving the rapidly developing Dwarka Expressway corridor.

Originally announced in May 2022 by the then Chief Minister, the project was stalled due to prolonged disputes over land transfer modalities. GMDA had identified 49.9 acres in Daultabad for the plant, with an estimated project cost of ₹179.75 crore. However, uncertainty over whether the land would be leased or transferred free of cost led to extended delays.

A breakthrough came in May 2025, when GMDA secured possession of the site after depositing ₹50 crore of the ₹74.13 crore land acquisition cost with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram.

The 100 MLD plant marks the first phase of a broader 350 MLD sewage infrastructure plan designed to serve Sectors 81 to 115. According to GMDA officials, the facility will play a critical role in reducing the discharge of untreated sewage into local drains and water bodies—an ongoing environmental concern in the region.

A consultant has been appointed to develop the design, technical specifications, and cost estimates for the project, a GMDA spokesperson confirmed.
