Madhya Pradesh Approves ₹2,813 Crore for Tap Water Projects

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has approved an additional ₹2,813.21 crore for the Jal Jeevan Mission, marking a 13.55% cost escalation—from ₹6,213.76 crore to ₹9,026.97 crore. The increased cost will be fully borne by the state government, according to Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Vijayvargiya noted that out of 27,990 approved single village tap water schemes, 15,947 have been completed, while work is ongoing in 12,043 villages. Funding for 8,358 of these schemes requires revision to ensure reliable tap water supply to approximately seven lakh rural households.

In addition, the Cabinet approved:

148 group water supply schemes valued at ₹60,786 crore, 27,990 single village schemes with a total cost of ₹20,765 crore

These measures aim to accelerate access to clean drinking water, improve public health, and support the state’s broader rural development goals.
