The Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC) has directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and four municipal bodies to allocate funds for the ₹6,394 crore Poshir Dam project, set to be constructed in Karjat taluka, Raigad district, Maharashtra.
Designed as a stone and clay dam with a storage capacity of 349 million cubic metres, the project will augment the existing Barvi Dam and cater to the region’s rising water demand.
The funding responsibilities are divided as follows:
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) – ₹2,783 crore, MMRDA – ₹2,171.45 crore, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation – ₹611.28 crore, Badlapur Municipal Council – ₹375.97 crore, Ambarnath Municipal Council – ₹452 crore
KIDC Executive Engineer Vinod Munjappa urged all beneficiary agencies to release their respective contributions in the upcoming fiscal year. The project received administrative and technical clearances during the March 2025 Legislative session. The Urban Development Department will coordinate funding allocations under the Chief Minister’s guidance.
