During a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government approved a revised ₹2,406-crore plan to modernize the water supply system in the catchment area of the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
The Delhi Water Supply Improvement Project (DWSIP), supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to replace 1,000 km of aging water transmission lines that have been prone to leakages and contamination. The upgrade will benefit approximately 22 lakh residents in areas including Patel Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Under the project, the treatment capacity of Chandrawal WTP will increase from 90 MGD to 115 MGD, while non-revenue water is expected to drop from 50% to 15%. Work has already commenced on two of the six project packages, with the entire project slated for completion within three years.
