Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has underscored the importance of the Sundilla Barrage on the Godavari River as a key component of the revised Pranahita Chevella Sujala Sravanthi project.
The proposed Tummidihatti–Sundilla link is designed to address challenges faced in the earlier plan, which encountered technical constraints due to coal seams along the canal alignment. The revised design aims to shorten canal and tunnel lengths, mitigate geological risks, and streamline environmental clearances, potentially saving the state up to ₹1,600 crore.
Focused on improving irrigation efficiency and water resource management, the project emphasizes technical feasibility and financial prudence. Minister Reddy has directed officials to revalidate earlier surveys and undertake fresh geotechnical and topographical studies to ensure project viability. The revised project report will be presented to the state Cabinet for consideration and approval.
