The Trichy City Corporation has announced that 92% of work under Phase III of its underground drainage (UGD) project has been completed across peripheral wards, with full commissioning expected by January 2026.
According to officials, Phase II—implemented at a cost of ₹377 crore—has been fully completed, laying 287 km of pipelines and extending sewage coverage to 25 wards. Phase III, with an outlay of ₹330 crore, will bring the network to 16 additional wards. Mayor Mu Anbalagan confirmed that the remaining works will be wrapped up by December 2025, followed by trial runs overseen by a project management consultant and submission of the final completion report.
In parallel, work on a centralised Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Panjapur, sanctioned at ₹237.8 crore, is being fast-tracked. The facility will treat wastewater from both Phase II and Phase III zones, forming a crucial link in Trichy’s integrated sanitation strategy.
To address road damage caused by drainage and water supply projects, the Corporation has also identified 230 roads across Zones I–IV for redevelopment. This restoration effort, valued at ₹15.4 crore (including a ₹12 crore loan from TUFIDCO), is scheduled to be completed ahead of the northeast monsoon to improve urban mobility and safety.
