A New Era in Indian Healthcare: Aster DM and CARE Hospitals Merge

Aster DM Healthcare has secured approval from Competition Commission of India (CCI) to proceed with its merger with Quality Care India, backed by Blackstone. The merged entity, to be known as Aster DM Quality Care, will be jointly controlled by Aster Promoters and Blackstone, forming one of India’s top three hospital chains.

Currently, Aster DM operates 19 hospitals with 5,128 beds and 13 clinics across five Indian states. The combined entity will include 38 hospitals with over 10,150 beds, covering 27 cities. Post-merger, the hospital network will include four brands: Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, KIMSHEALTH, and Evercare. The merger, announced in November 2024, marks one of the largest healthcare deals in India, with the enterprise value of the merged company estimated at USD five billion (Rs 43,000 crore).

Aster DM stated that the integration is expected to be completed this year. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand capacity to 13,300 beds by FY27 through a mix of greenfield and brownfield projects, leveraging internal accruals and existing funds. Calling the regulatory clearance a pivotal development, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, Azad Moopen said, “The merged entity is expected to grow to around 13,300 beds by FY27 through internal accruals/cash on hand with a mix of greenfield and brownfield opportunities.”
