On September 1, 2025, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated 15 major healthcare infrastructure projects worth over ₹180 crore at the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The initiatives include completed works worth ₹98.79 crore and foundation stones laid for new projects totalling ₹81.50 crore.
Calling the developments people-centric, CM Vijayan stated:
“These new facilities will bring a revolutionary change in patient care. They will enable faster, more accurate diagnoses, ensure effective treatment, and help reduce healthcare costs for the common man.”
Key Highlights:
State-of-the-art Operation Theatre Complex: A seven-storey block housing 14 operation theatres, 145 beds, and 16 ICU units.
New MLT Block: A six-storey facility with a library, lecture halls, and research rooms for medical laboratory technology education.
Advanced Imaging Upgrades: Installation of MRI, SPECT CT, and digital radiography units.
SAT Hospital Enhancements:
New paediatric nephrology and neurology wards, Kerala’s first public paediatric haemodialysis unit, Gastro endoscopy unit, Maternal and Neonatal Care Additions:, Mother-Newborn Care Unit, Human Milk Bank, Specialty Units:, Skin Bank, Urodynamic Study Centre
These additions are expected to significantly elevate patient care, clinical outcomes, and accessibility at one of Kerala’s premier public healthcare institutions.
