ESIC Approves Medical College at Asansol ESI Hospital

The Regional Board of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the establishment of a medical college at the ESI Hospital in Asansol, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in West Burdwan.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has already granted clearance for the project, which will be developed on a 20-acre campus within the hospital premises. State Labour Minister and Asansol North MLA Moloy Ghatak confirmed that the tendering process will begin after the festive season.

The plan includes:

Upgrading the existing hospital into a state-run medical college and hospital, Adding 50 new beds, Expanding medical infrastructure and services

A nursing college offering 50 BSc seats is already operational on-site, further supporting healthcare education in the region.

Currently, the hospital houses a dental unit, Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and a 16-bed dialysis facility, serving around 50,000 patients annually.

With no government medical college currently in West Burdwan, this initiative is expected to position Asansol as a regional healthcare hub, improving access to medical education and advanced treatment facilities for surrounding districts.
