ICICI Bank: ₹550 Crore Boost for Visakhapatnam Cancer Care

ICICI Bank has pledged more than ₹550 crore to establish a state-of-the-art cancer care facility at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This initiative is part of a broader ₹1,800 crore commitment by the bank to advance healthcare in India, in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC).

The new eight-storey "ICICI Foundation Block for Child and Blood Cancer", spanning 3.9 lakh square feet, will house over 215 beds and is designed to serve approximately 3,000 patients annually. Upon receiving necessary approvals, the facility is expected to be completed by 2027. Once operational, it will significantly boost HBCHRC’s current capacity, which supports around 6,200 patients each year.

The project will be led by the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank. Commenting on the initiative, ICICI Bank Chairman Pradeep Kumar Sinha said, “We are honoured to partner with TMC in a mission towards cancer care. This project reflects our commitment to enabling accessible and high-quality medical care.”

TMC Director Dr. Sudeep Gupta and HBCHRC Director Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty emphasized the importance of the collaboration. Dr. Girish Chinnaswamy from Tata Memorial Hospital added that the new facility will allow expansion of bone marrow transplant services and the introduction of immunotherapy treatments for paediatric and haematolymphoid cancers.
