Infrastructure Overdrive: ₹12,000 Cr for Rails, Trillions for Water

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved infrastructure projects worth around ₹12,000 crore and also cleared the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission with a proposed investment of more than ₹5 lakh crore.

Highlighting the decision, Modi said the approved railway multitracking projects will cover five districts across West Bengal and Jharkhand. The projects aim to improve efficiency, reduce congestion, and strengthen regional connectivity. In a social media post, he noted that the initiatives will enhance freight movement, support economic activity, and promote sustainable, low-carbon transportation.

According to an official statement, the government has approved two projects under the Ministry of Railways with a combined cost of about ₹4,474 crore. These include the construction of a fourth railway line on the Sainthia–Pakur section and the Santragachi–Kharagpur section, spanning parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. The multitracking projects are expected to streamline railway operations and reduce congestion on busy routes.

The approvals signal a major push toward strengthening railway infrastructure while also expanding rural drinking water access under the Jal Jeevan Mission, reflecting the government’s focus on connectivity, economic growth, and sustainable development.
