Industree Foundation, a Bengaluru-based organisation working on women’s economic empowerment, climate action and sustainable nature-based value chains, has partnered with the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), the State Rural Livelihood Mission of Andhra Pradesh, to launch a Primary Processing Unit (PPU) for bamboo in Maredumilli Mandal of Pollavaram district.
The region, known for its rich ecology and large tribal population, has abundant bamboo resources, making it well suited for developing sustainable, community-based livelihoods.
The foundation stone for the processing unit was virtually laid by N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The event was attended by Vangalapudi Anitha, Minister for Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Minister for Women & Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare, and V. Karuna, CEO of SERP.
The project aims to utilise local bamboo resources while creating livelihood opportunities for women and tribal communities, promoting economic development alongside environmental sustainability.
