On 29 December 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a ₹111 crore permanent headquarters building for the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, along with a new citywide surveillance system comprising 2,000 CCTV cameras.
The 10-storey building, located at Khanapara, will house all branches of the Guwahati Police and provide facilities for around 400 personnel, including office spaces, a library, and an archival section. Designed with sustainability in mind, the building incorporates eco-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting, water treatment systems, and solar power installations. The surveillance project, developed at a cost of ₹181 crore, includes an Integrated Command and Control Centre aimed at strengthening real-time monitoring and enhancing urban security. Initiated in 2023, the project seeks to significantly improve safety, security, and operational efficiency in the city.
In addition, the Home Minister flagged off 39 mobile forensic vans for the Assam Police, marking a major upgrade in the state’s policing and investigative infrastructure.
