The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced plans to construct a 21-kilometre double-decker flyover — one of the longest in India — connecting Shil Phata junction with Ranjnoli junction in Bhiwandi, via Kalyan.
The ambitious project will feature a four-lane roadway and metro rail tracks, integrating with key infrastructure corridors such as the Virar–Alibaug multimodal corridor and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project. Designed to accommodate three metro lines, the flyover will significantly enhance connectivity across the region.
While the construction poses engineering challenges, particularly the crossing over Kalyan’s busy railway tracks, the project is expected to greatly ease traffic congestion and strengthen regional connectivity, transforming mobility across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
