Mohali's $1,400-Crore Traffic Fix Finally Opens December 1st

The much-anticipated Greenfield Project in Mohali is slated to open on December 1, following earlier delays in June and September. Designed to ease traffic congestion on Airport Road and provide an alternative corridor to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, the project marks a major infrastructure milestone for the region.

Implemented under the Central Government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana, the ₹1,400 crore project covers a 31 km stretch from IT Chowk in Mohali to the Kurali–Chandigarh Road. Despite setbacks caused by floods, heavy rains, and landowner protests, construction is now largely complete.

The new road will be a toll-based corridor, with rates yet to be finalized. According to local officials, it is expected to significantly streamline traffic flow, particularly for commuters traveling from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, who currently rely on the longer Ludhiana route.

Final touches, including road markings and minor works, are expected to be completed within the next 10 days, paving the way for the project’s official inauguration.
