AMCH's New Era: A ₹300 Crore Investment in Healthcare Excellence

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reviewed the master plan for a ₹300 crore redevelopment project at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. The initiative aims to modernize the infrastructure of the region’s oldest medical college, established in 1947, by upgrading residential and institutional facilities.

During a high-level meeting at the CM's secretariat in Dibrugarh, Sarma assessed the project’s detailed plans alongside State Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, SP Rakesh Reddy, AMCH Principal and Chief Superintendent Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, and senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD).

The redevelopment plan focuses on replacing outdated residential quarters with modern accommodations for faculty, staff, and students. New residences will be constructed for the principal, vice-principal, professors, and employees, along with separate boys’ and girls’ hostels, GNM quarters, and a convention center. The project aims to integrate state-of-the-art amenities to enhance living conditions and support the institution’s evolving needs.

"Assam Medical College and Hospital is a legacy that has served the people of the northeast for decades. This ₹300 crore initiative will modernize its infrastructure and ensure it continues providing top-tier healthcare and education. We are committed to completing the project swiftly and efficiently," Sarma stated.

He emphasized the importance of aligning the new facilities with AMCH’s long-term vision, ensuring they reflect the institution’s historical significance while attracting top talent.

AMCH Principal Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati expressed gratitude for the government’s support, highlighting the project’s role in strengthening the institution’s future.
